Crew 2024 Review
Why should men have all the fun and get to do all the action in the air? It’s delightful when women take charge in movies, and director Rajesh Krishnan’s heist comedy, Crew, now available on Netflix, delivers this with a refreshing twist. Starring the dynamic trio of Kareena Kapoor Khan, Tabu, and Kriti Sanon, this film brings a breath of fresh air with its engaging plot and compelling characters. They are feisty, fearless when needed, and most importantly, really fun. Even when the plot takes bizarre turns or gets a little over the top, Crew remains a funny and refreshing watch.

Storyline:
Crew follows the lives of three air hostesses working for the fictional Kohinoor Airlines, modeled loosely on the now-defunct Kingfisher Airlines. Geeta Sethi (Tabu), Jasmine Bajwa (Kareena Kapoor), and Divya Rana (Kriti Sanon) are each chasing their dreams and striving for a better life.
Geeta, a former Miss Karnal, lives with her husband Arun Sethi (Kapil Sharma), a home chef. Together, they dream of opening their own restaurant in Goa while occasionally helping Geeta’s alcoholic brother and his wife. Jasmine, obsessed with luxury brands and social media, grew up in Jabalpur with her nana (Kulbhushan Kharbanda), who always emphasized the importance of family.

Divya, a school topper with a doting family, hides her true job as an air hostess from her family, who believe she is studying to become a pilot. The only thrill in her life, other than her job and the scandals she gets caught in, is customs officer Jaiveer (Diljit Dosanjh), who tries to woo her but often ends up getting played.
The plot kicks into high gear when these three women, struggling to make ends meet, stumble upon an opportunity to change their lives overnight by plotting a heist. The idea of conning a conman is tantalizing, and the trio’s adventures are filled with humor and clever twists, despite some parts of the plot feeling undercooked.

Performances:
The film’s charm lies in the performances of its lead actresses. Tabu, Kareena Kapoor, and Kriti Sanon share an easy bond that translates well on screen. Tabu’s comic timing and her ability to elevate even the most mundane scenes are commendable. Kareena Kapoor, in particular, is in tremendous form, delivering both in terms of glamour and acting prowess. Kriti Sanon’s natural flair for drama adds a refreshing touch to the film.
Kapil Sharma and Diljit Dosanjh, though given limited screen time, manage to leave an impression. Saswata Chatterjee also stands out as the tycoon modeled after Vijay Mallya.

Direction and Writing:
Director Rajesh Krishnan and writers Nidhi Mehra and Mehul Suri rely heavily on the star power of their leading ladies. While the script has moments of cleverness and wit, it also leans too much on glib dialogue and situational humor. The film’s pacing is brisk, and Krishnan manages to keep the audience engaged, even as some jokes feel forced and the plot takes predictable turns.
The film is visually appealing, capturing the affluence and aspirational lifestyles of its characters. The background score, featuring nostalgic tracks like “Choli Ke Peeche” from Khal Nayak and “Sona Kitna Sona” from Hero No. 1, adds to the film’s quirky charm, though at times it feels overused.
